I have a confession to make.  Right now, while I am at work at the Science of Mind Archives, I am very distracted. I have just completed taking number 6 of my 10 senior exams for Holmes Institute (Masters in Consciousness Studies program) and the School of Spiritual Leadership (the ministerial program, mine is through the Denver Region).  The past three and a half years have flown by and it is exciting to be so close to wrapping up this most excellent ministerial journey.  For these 10 exams, I get to review all that I have learned over these past few years and I am very impressed about the journey.

I love that in school we study many of the world’s great faith paths, including: Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, understanding the original meaning and messages from the Bible, and more.  And I also love that Science of Mind truly is the “Golden Thread of Truth” that incorporates the core beliefs of Oneness from all these faiths.  In the Extension Study Course to the Science of Mind Textbook, Dr. Holmes frequently will take a topic he is discussing and list what other faith traditions say about it.

Here is a sample from Volume 1:

Bibles of the World

Fragments from the spiritual history of the race revealing fundamental UNITY of religious thought and experience

JUDAISM and CHRISTIANITY -- In God have I put my trust. I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. Fear thou not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed; for I am thy God. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall. But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.

ZOROASTRIANISM -- For the three excellent things be never slack, namely: good thoughts, good words, and good deeds; for the three abominable things be ever slack, namely: bad thoughts, bad words, and bad deeds. I will pray unto thee for help, with many consecrations, with good consecrations of libations: that we, abiding in thee, may long inhabit a good abode, full of all the riches that can be wished for.

HELLENISTIC THEOSOPHY -- Now thinking-manifest deals with things made alone, for thinking manifest is nothing else than making. . . And as He thinketh all things manifest, He manifests through all things and in all, and most of all in whatsoever things He wills to manifest. With Reason (Logos), not with hands, did the World-maker make the universal world; so that thou thus shouldst think of Him as everywhere and ever-being, the Author of all things, and One and Only, who by His Will all things hath created.

RAJA-YOGA PHILOSOPHY -- Therefore it is clear that Ignorance can be removed only by Wisdom.

ISLAM -- If God help you, none shall overcome you; but if He abandon you, who is he that shall help you when He is gone? In God, then, let the faithful trust. We created man: and we know what his soul whispereth to him, and we are closer to him than his neck-vein.

When I was taking “The Teaching of Ernest Holmes”, boy, was I working in the right place!  The instructor very wisely had students go to the Science of Mind Archives’ website throughout the entire class so we could read lesser known (and deeply rich!) writings of Dr. Holmes.  We also got to read biographies of Ernest Holmes and write a paper on it.  What a lovely way to understand who Ernest, the Man, is and to have more depth of understanding of how this sacred, joyous, comprehensive and useful philosophy was created.

(Two biographies are available on the Science of Mind Archives website:  Ernest Holmes, the Man by close friend Reginald Armor and In His Company: Ernest Holmes Remembered by Archives’ Founder, daughter to Reginald Armor and neighbor to Ernest, Rev. Dr. Marilyn Leo)

There is a whole section in Holmes Institute on “Science and Spirituality” (you know—the “Science” of Science of Mind!).  My classes included learning about Quantum Physics, Mind-Body Medicine, Spirituality and the Brain, and much more by world reknown professors!  I know—definitely!—that Dr. Holmes would approve of these classes.  I love listening to his radio talks, especially on my way to class (now available on iTunes and Amazon.com Link HERE) because in most every talk he includes some piece of scientific evidence to help explain what we are experiencing in This Thing Called Life. (NOTE: In iTunes, search for all the words "This Thing Called Life Ernest Holmes" to easily find these radio talks).

When I was learning about the history of New Thought, I would go to the Archives estore/free area and get eBooks such as, "The History of New Thought" by Horatio Dresser, "In Tune with the Infinite" by Ralph Waldo Trine, "The Quimby Manuscripts" by Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, a number of ebooks by Judge Thomas Troward (one of Ernest Holmes' main influences in the creation of the Science of Mind!), and much, much more! Just WOW!

When I wanted to see what Science of Mind was saying in the world about a certain period of time (such as in the year I was born or during WWII, etc.), I would just go to the year and month of  Science of Mind magazine or Creative Thought magazine and look it up!  Easy and very fascinating! (note: the magazines are currently "down" during a website upgrade, but will be back on line shortly!)

I even did an internship through the Archives and was able to learn a LOT about the 90 year evolution of Science of Mind magazine and this amazing spiritual movement!  Dr. Marilyn Leo's comprehensive book, Chronicles of Religious Science Volume 1 (The Early Years from 1926-1959) was invaluable for this project--and I got a sneak preview of Volume 2 (1960-2012)--due out soon in 2018! Stay tuned!!

It seemed like every day I was accessing the Science of Mind Archives' website for some resource or another. Now, I absolutely know that “There is a Power for Good in the Universe, Greater than I am, and I can use it!”

So, while I may be distracted right now by the exams that are culminating my most excellent spiritual journey through school, how Blessed am I to be living and learning about Science of Mind every day at the Archives--and to be able to share it with YOU!

My advice is:  Take the classes!  Explore the amazing and timeless resources on the Archives’ website!  Listen to Dr. Holmes’ radio talks!  Open your hearts and minds to truly deepen into this profound wisdom.  Embody and use it consistently in your daily life. Together we can create and experience the Truth of A World that Works for Everyone and Peace on Earth— Now.

And so it is!

Classes are available through Centers for Spiritual Living--online, at your local Center, or through Holmes Institute
